Thano’s Speech On VCE Maths

Good morning everyone.

My name is Thano and as a Year 12 further maths student, I am here to talk to you about the challenges of doing a VCE maths subject. In Year 11, I chose both general maths and maths methods as two of my subjects for that school year. At the start of year 12 though, I decided not to continue with maths methods so I could do better in Further maths that I though I was stronger in. So far, it has been a very successful semester for me, despite all the challenges I’ve faced. Such challenges were the language and I am sure that many other students here are faced with the same challenged too. One way to overcome this challenge is by practicing, both the written and spoken language in every day life and completing more worded style questions. Further maths is a subject which many students may find easy, yet not many people end up performing their best.

The reason is that they believe they do not need to dedicate a lot of time. This is not the truth.

To perform better, the key is in doing more questions and enjoying the subject, because you want to do it and not because someone forced you to do it or because it is a prerequisite for your university course. If you want to succeed in a subject the only way to do it, is by always being on top of your work, getting the most help from your teachers both during class and out of class and a very good example is the homework club after school. Thank you.
